Bad Lands

What we called pioneers gave them the same name
The land was something for people who didn't know where they were going
Arrived the bottom of the former ocean colonizers

The Lakota first named them but no sign was needed
Everyone who arrives hears their name those who walked them
By car they could not imagine the joy to see

The hardship laid down in layers by life itself
Seemingly devoid of life ever defined by life
Like a wager on team extinction
