Bad Lands

What we called pioneers gave them the same name The land was something for people who didn't know where they were going Arrived the bottom of the former ocean colonizers The Lakota first named them but no sign was needed Everyone who arrives hears their name those who walked them By car they could not imagine the joy to see The hardship laid down in layers by life itself Seemingly devoid of life ever defined by life Like a wager on team extinction

Going through this process I am confident that fifty percent of Peace Corps volunteers feel they made a mistake in going.  I have heard stories of sexual assault and was glad I wasn't a women going. So after two years they recommend I wait a year and then go back through the two year process.  I love service but I am not a moron. Rather open my eyes to what I can accomplish in two years.  Peace Corps sure did miss out, but...
