There was something familiar. She opened the door before she cleared stuff off the front seat. I jumped right in. I really didn't think twice. She told me she didn't like anyone walking down the freeway. Afraid they would get hit. She assumed my car in the icy ditch. I smiled. I ran out of gas still not adjusted to driving a distance to work.  I knew I needed gas, but the day delayed two hours it slipped my mind.  As the car died it was a quick check list and I knew I needed gas two miles from the exit.   On the positive side I was going to do what I needed to do.  And I left my phone at home. Walk three miles well I had earned that.  I liked my attitude.  I had decided last minute to grab a coat and it was warm.  Things could be worse.  The last thing I expected was help. The toughest job you will ever love. This was my first exposure to the Peace Corps.  There is little from my youth that I remember more clear; thinking about departing on a plane like in those commercials.  I think it was the otherness that attracted me, but I find myself still pulled to the idea in new ways. There was a time in my life when I wasn't sure when I would finish my undergraduate degree.  This was something I understood to be required for service.  I did research on similar programs around the world that did not require a degree.  What I found was most of these programs were short-term and very expensive.  In 1995, I was fortunate to connect with the right person associated with the United Methodist Committee on Relief. The person I spoke with was concerned how I got his phone number.  I told him I had found it in an old local church newspaper.  I heard him ask another person how his number got in that paper.  In less than a mont...

 Is writing for one hour worth your time.  This is the type of question you often find in English class.  Teaching and subbing are two different things.  One I enjoy. There are no answers to questions that we discuss in most cases.  Layers of onions are not so many in comparison.  What youth believes is they are standing on solid ground.  What the old believe is they are standing on solid ground To be grown is to take responsibility for your time.  I waste time to be sure but even waste has use in a sustainable world.  We discard nothing.  We take everything.  How does that work that no one is in charge.  When we look we see what we expect. Our brains do not find the world as interesting as it could be.  We wait and we wait for a time of imagination.  We have imagination to live not to wait upon.  We should serve others but not serve a penalty for something we did not do.
